Assistant Principal

I earned a B.S. in Philosophy and Religion from UTC in 1990, and moved to Glasgow, Scotland to work at a church and explore a music career. I had a great experience overseas, and learned a great deal about life! Six years later, I decided it was time to come home to the states, and I moved to Knoxville, TN where I earned a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction at UT. I began teaching in Alcoa City Schools in the mid-1990s and served as a 7th grade math/science teacher and librarian.

In 1998, I moved back to my hometown of Chattanooga to be closer to my family and was hired in Hamilton County Schools. I worked as the Title 1 Reading/Math coach for East Side Elementary School for 3 years. In 2001, I was promoted to assistant principal and have served in that capacity since then. I have been at Allen Elementary since 2007, and love the school community deeply. In May 2010, I began the great undertaking of working on my doctorate and completed it in early 2013! I am very happy to be finished with my degree, but I love to learn and am always looking for the next challenge around the corner!

I have one wonderful son, Luke, who is 9 years old and entering the fifth grade here at Allen. It is an honor to serve this community, and I enjoy working hard every day to help make our school and community the best that it can be. My office is always open to everyone, and in the mornings is the best place to get a cup of coffee! Follow your nose as you smell the coffee to the first door on the left as you enter the building and come see me.

As we work as an elementary school community, we are daily assisting our children to 'sharpen their ax' so that when their time comes they will be able to chop down their tree just like Abraham Lincoln. This work- preparing children to be adults, is the single most important thing that we do as a society. Without teachers and parents input, children flounder. Success occurs when we all work together to focus and maintain high and lofty goals for our families. The journey of reaching those goals is the best part!
