Good Evening Nolan Families - We hope everyone has had a wonderful summer and we would like to welcome everyone back as we near the beginning of the 17-18 school year at Nolan! As a reminder, registration day will take place on Monday, August 7 from 8:30 to 10:30 for both returning Nolan students and students who will be new to Nolan this year.

Student rosters will be posted in the front lobby for students in grades 1 through 5 and families will go to classrooms to meet their students' teachers, complete some additional registration paperwork, and pay school fees.

Families of Kindergarten students will complete their registration process and sign up for phase in days in the gym with classroom rosters being set during the phase in period.

All new students who have not pre-registered will complete the registration process in the cafeteria and must present two proofs of residency within the Nolan zone, copies of the social security card and birth certificate, and copies of the immunization records and proof of physical on the Tennessee form.

During registration, families will be able to sign up for volunteer opportunities, purchase Nolan spirit wear through our wonderful Nolan PTA, pick up pre-purchased school supply kits, and learn about this year's bus routes and estimated pick up and drop off times.

In addition, families will have an opportunity to learn more about other school supports including our SACC childcare program and the Mountain Education Foundation.

The first full day for all students and those Kindergarten students coming for phase in, will be on Thursday, August 10 with students being able to arrive as early as 8:20 when teachers come on duty.

Please note that all K-2 students will again go to the gym each morning upon arrival and all 3-5 students will go to the cafeteria upon arrival.

Dismissal will continue to begin at 3:35 each afternoon following our established car rider, bus rider, and walker routines and procedures.

Tech Town will be hosting a Pop Up Camp in the library on Saturday, August 12 from 11:00 to 2:00, and there will be no school for students on Monday, August 21 due to the solar eclipse event.

In closing, we want to remind all of our bus rider families to opt in to our Remind bus text system following the directions on the Remind Bus Text Flyer you will receive on registration day. This text system is an excellent means of communication and allows us to notify all parents who are registered of any delays in a very timely manner.

In addition, we will have several projects going on throughout the year that we can use your help on. First, our STEM lab is in need of any unused cell phones or devices with Wi-Fi capabilities for a variety of virtual reality activities. These devices can be dropped off in the office at any time and are greatly appreciated. Next, we will have several teachers and students working to enhance our outdoor learning areas. Through their efforts, we will be revamping our current outdoor classroom area while also looking ahead to establishing an outdoor STEM area. If you or your company would like to help through donations of time, money, or other resources, please contact Lisa Hope or Jennifer Cisto and be on the lookout for additional information as we progress throughout the year.

As always, thanks for all of your support as we look forward to another great year of learning and growing here at Nolan!
Shane D. Harwood, Ed.D.
