Good Evening Nolan Families - We wanted to share some information about upcoming April events.

Our summer reading library book fair begins next week on Monday, April 3 through Friday, April 7 with students visiting the book fair during their library times.

Our 3rd grade students will be taking a field trip to the Nature Center with some classes going on Monday, April 3 and some classes going on Tuesday, April 4.

Our Kindergarten pre-registration day will take place on Wednesday, April 5 from 1:00 to 3:00 in the gym, and our 4th grade students will be going on a field trip to the Booth Museum on Thursday, April 6.

There will be a 1st grade Creative Discovery Museum enrichment activity taking place on Thursday, April 6 and Friday, April 7, and a 5th grade enrichment activity with Ben Roy on Friday, April 7 as well.

The annual MEF Dash and Bash will take place on Friday, April 7 with the race starting at 6:00 and the Bash ending at 8:30 with all events taking place at SMMHS.  Registration is now open and there are many volunteer opportunities still available.  All information regarding registration, volunteer sign-ups, ticket purchases, and armband purchases can be found at meftoday.org or on our Nolan site at nolanknights.com.  This is an amazing opportunity for a community-wide event supporting our Signal Mountain schools and I hope to see everyone there!  Also, if students have Dash and Bash shirts, we are encouraging them to wear them tomorrow and again on Friday, April 7 supporting the event.

There will be a PTA meeting with our Nolan chorus, hand bells group, and strings group performing on Tuesday, April 11 beginning at 7:00.  On this same evening, we will have several Nolan students recognized at the Young Southern Student Writers awards ceremony that will take place at the Tivoli Theatre beginning at 6:00.

Our 1st grade students will be taking a field trip to the Chattanooga Theatre Center on Thursday, April 13 and there will be a Kindergarten Aquarium enrichment activity on that day as well.

There will be no school on Friday, April 14 in observance of Good Friday, and our PTA Teacher Appreciation Week will take place the following week beginning on Monday, April 17 and continuing through Friday, April 21.

TN Ready TCAP testing for students in grades 3 through 5 will begin on Tuesday, April 18 with the first part of the reading assessment, and we will have our April character assembly with a very special visit from children's author Patricia Polacco on Friday, April 21 beginning at 1:30.

TN Ready TCAP testing will continue the next week with social studies and science testing taking place on Wednesday, April 26 and Thursday, April 27 with make-up testing taking place on Friday, April 28.  TN Ready TCAP testing will then be completed the following week during the first week of May with additional reading and math testing taking place on Monday, May 1 through Thursday, May 4 with all make-up testing being completed on Friday, May 5.

In closing, we want to remind everyone of tonight's STEAM Night being held from 6:30 to 8:00 at Nolan.  Lots of fun, hands-on STEAM activities are planned and we hope that you can join us for this fun evening.  Thanks so much for your support!

-Shane D. Harwood, Ed.D.
